ATD Research recently published Leadership Development: Cultivating Critical Skills for Employees at All Levels , which surveyed TD professionals, C-suite executives (excluding TD and HR executives), and working Americans (learners). While the findings show that the majority of TD professionals and C-suite executives say leadership development at all levels is a high priority, in practice, things look different. Fewer than half of TD professionals surveyed (47 percent) report offering leadership development to all employees.

They suggest, “Rather than identifying specific people or thinking of replacing a person, think about building skill areas in employees so they have the required competencies to transition into a leadership position.”
