Congratulations, Leah de Souza! You’re the winner of the "Marketing Your Career Brand" giveaway! Please email your mailing address to Alex Quinn at [email protected].
A career brand is composed of everything you want to be known for professionally, including your experience, skills, and interests. What is yours?
This question must be answered before you can complete a career brand check-up and successfully market your brand. Take some time to think about what your career brand is and how you want others to see and interpret it.
To help you identify your career brand, try these exercises and tools:
Think about how you want others to recognize you and your brand. What three words would you use to describe your brand?
Ask your friends and colleagues to describe your brand in three words.
Complete the 360Reach personal branding assessment.
Learn how the world sees you with Sally Hogshead’s Fascination tool.
Once you have identified your career brand, conduct this simple three-step check-up to ensure your brand is ready and marketable:
Check your paper presentation.
Review and update your resume. Make sure your resume reflects your brand-relevant skills and accomplishments. Prove your accomplishments with results-oriented phrases.
Check your online presentation.
Review and update your LinkedIn profile and any other social media platforms you are using. Make sure you have a professional photo and your summary reflects the keywords of your brand. Check that all of your social media tools have the successful branding trio: quality, consistency, and value.
Check your physical presentation.
Check yourself in the mirror. Do you look like your images online? Do you dress and carry yourself in a manner that reflects your career brand? When people meet you in person, make sure that you are the brand they saw on paper and online.
Once you have completed these three simple steps, you are ready to begin marketing your brand, which is discussed in the August 2014 bonus issue of TD at Work, “Marketing Your Career Brand.” Look inside the issue here.
For a chance to win a copy of “Marketing Your Career Brand” answer the above question in the comments section below. Your comment must be received by 5 p.m. EDT on Friday, September 26. If you prefer to email your response, please send it to [email protected].**
After reviewing the comments and emails received, the author will select and announce a winner in this post by Wednesday, October 1.
