(DIANE STAFFORD,The Kansas City Star, May 13, 2009) The Weitz Co., a construction firm that has offices and projects in the Kansas City area, has kept a training budget of about $2 million a year (about 1.5 percent of its bottom line). And, unlike many organizations, it's kept a training manager on staff. That person, Jeff Trimble, explained: "We want to retain the talent we have and position ourselves in a competitive construction market to come out of the recession strong."
