George Alvarado is a Director of Service Delivery Training for C&W Services who earned the Virtual Instructional Design Certificate.

What motivated you to enroll in the Virtual Instructional Design Certificate course?

We are looking to create and design virtual training courses that are normally conducted in person to allow for more versatility.

In what ways has the Virtual Instructional Design Certificate course contributed to your career and /or personal growth?

It reminded me of the most fundamental steps and guidelines of instructional design and provided extra encouragement and information regarding execution of the design process for a virtual environment.

Would you recommend this course to others? If so, who and why?

Yes. Erica Nelson (my instructor) was fantastic, and the material was easy to follow and utilize. Whether someone is a beginner or experienced, this course serves as a great reminder of what we ought to consider for the learning experience.

How do you plan to apply the knowledge and skills acquired from the Virtual Instructional Design Certificate in your personal or professional life?

I am always looking for ways to teach in a virtual space. So, whether I am teaching about career counseling, military transition, or bible study to deliver formal/informal training across my company, I have already been utilizing these skills to help improve the learning experience.

How did you initially become involved in the talent development field?

It really started in the military. I was a training instructor there and knew this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. After retirement, I found several jobs that allowed me to fulfill my role as a trainer and learning specialist. It is my passion and my desire to educate and create a learning experience that improves learners’ lives—personally and professionally.

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?

Never attach your ego to your position or job, because your identity is not ultimately defined by temporal things.

Can you recommend a great book you have read recently?

The Secret Life of Pronouns by James Pennebaker

What is your favorite hobby or pastime?

I love to travel, read, play chess, and hang out with family and friends.
