Better Mental Health Through Training

2020 was a difficult year for most. The global health crisis upended traditional business practices, and uncertainty and fear took a toll on every person’s well-being. Through this process, leadership began to better understand the link between performance and mental health, and moving forward, many organizations are prioritizing the wellness of their staff. When an employee is struggling with mental health issues, their productivity slips. They find it harder to focus and lack the motivation to participate in their day-to-day life. When an employee is struggling, it’s necessary to intervene. Here’s where training can help. Similar to racial bias or sexual harassment training, organizations should offer training on how to best manage their mental health. This can include wellness exercises, coping mechanisms, and training around treatment-seeking tools. Managers should also be trained on how to identify red flags that may indicate a team member is struggling and how to best approach the situation with compassion and empathy.
