While we’re all still figuring out what the “new normal” looks like, the numbers are indicating remote work is here to stay. According to a recent Gallup poll, 45 percent of full-time US employees worked from home at least some of their time in September. This figure is almost the same as the remote work rates seen in July and August, meaning that no significant movement has been made on return-to-office plans. The majority see benefits of working from home at least part of the time. A full 91 percent of workers in the US who worked remotely at least some of the time during the pandemic hope they can continue to do so indefinitely, and 54 percent of respondents said they would like to split their time between the office and remote work. By contrast, only 9 percent said they want a full return to the office. Remote employees said time preservation was one of the biggest benefits of their arrangements, and the lack of a commute and the flexibility to manage personal obligations has led to improved well-being and more balance within their personal and professional lives.
