With vaccines available and precautions in place, some organizations are considering what a return to the office might look like. However, after more than 18 months of working remotely, demanding a return to the office without offering a value-add proposition will be a hard sell. The current surge caused by the Delta variant is adding a new level of stress. Are organizations ready to start considering opening their doors? Microsoft summarized things succinctly in a recent blog post. “Given the uncertainty of COVID-19, we’ve decided against attempting to forecast a new date for a full reopening of our US work sites,” wrote Jared Spataro, Microsoft’s corporate vice presdient of Microsoft 365. Rather than torment employees with projections, false hopes, and hybrid models that inevitably fall through, business leaders should take this moment to pause and let things unfold.
