Collectively, employees have had it. Quit rates are up 25 percent since 2017, according to the bureau of labor statistics, and studies are showing nearly 40 percent of workers say they’re planning on looking for a new job in the coming year. But what exactly are they looking for? Flexibility, for one. According to a recent study, 30 percent of those looking to leave their current employer cited a lack of flexibility in their workday as one major reason why they were looking for the exit. Studies are also showing that a workplace’s culture is just as important, if not more, than the salary they’re offering. Those polled said they want better communication from leadership, greater degrees of psychological safety—meaning that if workers are free to bring their whole selves to work, they will not be made to feel less than—and higher levels of employee appreciation.
