Member Benefit
Published Thu Jul 01 2021
While much has been written on the benefits of remote work and how it is the preference of many employees, there may be benefits of a return to the office for many. For one, it helps place psychological boundaries between the “work” and “life” in work-life balance, and despite the commute and earlier wakeup times, it can actually help us feel like we’re working less overall by forcing us to manage our time better. Like it or not, the routine of the office sets a rhythm for our lives—one that many employees have been lacking since the start of the pandemic. Additionally, while many complain that the office is too distracting, they might not be taking into account the personal distractions of working from their domestic spaces. That might be a roommate watching TV or a child wandering into your workspace while on a Zoom call, but many people’s remote work lives are not distraction-free. Ultimately, it comes down to preference. The most successful return-to-work plans will be employee guided and account for the needs and desires of all interested parties.
