Gen Z, the generation currently entering the workforce, is often criticized by older generations for being entitled, lazy, and unwilling to conform to traditional work norms. However, legitimate concerns and changes in the workplace demand consideration. Gen Z, which will soon represent a significant portion of the US workforce, is witnessing economic disparities, job insecurity, and a lack of fulfillment in older generations, leading them to question established norms and the traditional path to success. Social media has given them a platform to express their views and challenge conventional wisdom. This younger generation seeks to live life to the fullest and is skeptical about adhering to traditional work structures. The pandemic and the rise of technology have further reshaped the workplace, leaving Gen Z uncertain about what’s considered normal. The onus is on older generations to mentor and train these newcomers to bridge the generation gap and explain the reasons behind existing norms. Failure to do so will lead to pushback from a generation determined not to be taken for granted.
