What got you here won’t get you there. This statement speaks to the critical need for innovation and growth for the continued success of any organization. This idea is particularly salient in hiring. Different generations want different things from their employers, and what worked for hiring boomers, Gen X, and millennials won’t be attractive to the younger folks of Gen Z. This is critically important for continued organizational sustainability, as Gen Z is expected to make up 20.7 percent of the workforce by 2025 and 33.4 percent by 2030. Organizations must take a more flexible and inclusive approach to day-to-day work to appeal to younger workers and demonstrate that they value diversity—not just pay lip service. Gen Z expects opportunities for growth and development, and they want to work for organizations that leverage technology in meaningful ways. They want regular feedback, mentorship opportunities, and a culture of continuous learning. Gen Z workers bring unique skills and perspectives to the workplace, and companies recognizing and leveraging these strengths will be better positioned to attract, retain, and optimize their talent.
