Retaining talent is a challenge for most organizations these days; however, companies with exceptional leadership often outperform their competitors in terms of engagement and retention. There are certain skills that set these leaders apart from the rest. First, concentrate on emotional intelligence. It’s critical for managers to temper their emotions and help their people do the same. Related to this factor is the need for psychological safety. This drives innovation, creativity, and actualization. When team members are psychologically safe, they are free to show up authentically. Professional development is also important. Millennial workers will make up 75 percent of the workforce by 2025, and they want opportunities to grow. Coaching and mentoring will keep them engaged in their roles. And finally, make sure their roles have a purpose. A recent study revealed that nearly seven out of 10 employees are reflecting on their purpose because the pandemic shifted their outlook on life. COVID-19 has also caused half of American employees to reconsider the work that they want to do. Millennials are likely to see work as their “life calling.”
