Organizations cling to conventional wisdom at their peril. Change comes so fast, so continually, that even six-week-old wisdom may be obsolete, let alone anything old enough to be called conventional.

Conventional wisdom is pervasive. We often accept it as true and follow it without even thinking. At first glance, this seems perfectly reasonable. After all, Merriam-Webster’s definition of the term—“the generally accepted belief, opinion, judgment, or prediction about a particular matter”—lends an air of legitimacy, even authority, to the “wisdom” in conventional wisdom.
