Numerous articles have been written about productivity, employee engagement, reducing turnover, and how all these items are interconnected. But really, these countless hours of thought and reams of paper can be summarized in just one sentence: It’s always the manager. And again, there has been exhaustive amounts of literature written on the topic, but once more, it comes down to this simple idea: Good managers coach their employees. Instead of focusing on administering and directions, focus instead on coaching. Have one coaching conversation each week with each of your team members to discuss their goals and how those aspirations align with the organization’s goals. By pivoting leadership styles to help employees maximize their strengths and minimize their weaknesses, employees will become more engaged, productive, and content. Culture will change, and your organization will be transformed.
