As the pandemic winds down, many organizations are looking to a future that'll be full of change. However, one change in particular—the increased utilization of remote employees—has many traditional managers scratching their heads. How can you best manage a decentralized team? What are their needs? When do you start? First, the best thing you can do is clearly define your purpose. Mission, vision, and core values need to be solidified, and all of the decisions you make should be guided by these principles. Once that's done, put in the necessary work to build trust in your team. They were hired for a reason—let them do their jobs. Finally, use ongoing, cascading goals to fuel transparency and collaboration. Align them around a common set of goals, engage them by showing how those goals accomplish the overall mission, and allow them to contribute in ways that play to their strengths.
