It should be an organization's first priority to keep their top talent engaged and retained; however, there are instances when turnover isn't the worst outcome. Consider this: a departing employee can actually be an asset. Instead of viewing a high performer's departure as a setback, managers should instead view the resignation as an opportunity. Turnover is a natural process, particularly for a growing organization. That said, ensure that departing employees leave on good terms. There is always the potential for a “boomerang,” and you want to make sure that exiting employees won't negatively represent your enterprise. Tamara Jenkins, workforce expert, and author says, “In what’s perhaps the most frequently discussed example, some ... choose to off-ramp for several years sometime in their career, and many are eager for opportunities to return ... Regardless of whether their departure is voluntary or involuntary, it’s never wise to say goodbye to a good employee.”
