The Great Resignation rolls on. According to numbers recently released, the number of folks leaving their jobs hit an all-time high in November 2021, with 4.5 million workers handing in their resignations. For context, 4.4 million voluntarily left their positions in September 2021 and 4.2 did the same in October 2021. Where are all these employees going? To better jobs, for the most part. The Labor Department says job openings have been hovering just north of 10 million for the past six months. Why are these employees leaving, though? The pandemic has a lot to do with it. More specifically, how their companies responded to it. About 19 percent of employees say they’re unhappy with how their employers treated them during the global health crisis, and increased feelings of stress have led to a significant increase in burnout-related turnover. What does all this mean, though? Simply put, the power is in the hands of the employees. “The short-term outlook for the labor market suggests workers are likely to continue to have considerable bargaining power in 2022,” hiring website Indeed said in a recent report.
