I recently had to make a difficult decision. My proposal to deliver a presentation at the annual conference of the largest HR organization had been approved last year, and I was waiting to make my first major presentation since the pandemic hit. My presentation on global blind spots was a call to action for organizations to reinstate global mindset and cultural competency talent development programs. The dilemma was that the presentation was going to be in Las Vegas, and I was concerned about the spread of the Delta variant of COVID-19. Many of my friends who received two vaccinations have experienced serious breakthrough cases. I decided to deliver the session virtually instead of in person. Despite this change, I wanted to maximize the opportunity for interaction and shared ideas in this new format. Delivering a session to a hybrid audience with some in-person and some virtual attendees requires new skills.
