With remote work options becoming more common, hiring managers are looking to fill off-site positions. Because there are different considerations for remote employment, the questions asked in the interview process should explore if the candidate is right for this type of work setup. First, ask if they have ever worked remotely before and what their experience was like. Guide the conversation to discuss the challenges they’ve faced and how they overcame them remotely. Consider the candidate’s communications skills and their ability to remain connected to their team. If the candidate has never worked in this modality before, ask them why they want to. It might seem like an odd question, but understanding a candidate’s motivation will help determine if they’re a good fit. Candidates who respond with something like “I’m more productive working from home,” are likely to be more cut out for the role than those who say, “I want to work in my pajamas.”
