Reconsidering the Employee Experience in the Post-Pandemic World

As businesses look forward to returning to some sense of normalcy after the pandemic concludes, many are reconsidering their employee experience. While the constant elements of the employee lifecycle never change, leaders are rethinking how they are interacting with employees during each stage. The first is hiring. The pandemic taught us that remote work is meaningful work, and by extension, hiring shouldn’t be dominated by geographic considerations. By being more open to hiring physically distant candidates, organizations are expanding their potential talent pools by orders of magnitude. Next is onboarding. While the COVID-19 pandemic upended traditional onboarding practices, first impressions are still important. Consider how your organization is making connections with and supporting employees in an increasingly digital world, particularly if the employee will be working remotely some or the time. Performance reviews are also changing. Smart organizations are taking this moment to review the metrics by which success is measured, keeping only those that are still meaningful. Development and well-being should also be prioritized in this equation. Employees who don’t feel supported by their organization or feel like there is no room for growth will find opportunities elsewhere.
