Recruitment Is Heating Up. Here’s How That Affects Your Employees

Competition for talent is reaching a fever pitch. While you might think that your top performers are solid and secure, the truth of the matter is no one is really “off the market” now. Here are two sobering facts that illustrate the point: A quarter of US employees say they’ve been contacted by a recruiter in the past three months, and a tenth say they’ve been contacted in the past three months even though they’re not actively looking for a new position or even keeping a lookout for new opportunities. This marks a 57 percent rise since 2015 in the number of folks being actively recruited regardless of their attitudes toward their current positions. Even if they decide to stay put, the act of being recruited affects employees in significant ways. If they choose to stay, their perceptions and expectations are likely to be different. The experience of being sought out will give them a new outlook on their worth, so it’s critical to ensure employees know how much they are valued.
