It seems like remote work is here to stay in some form or fashion, and the numbers back up that notion. According to the Future Workforce report, an estimated 36.2 million employees will be working remotely in the next five years. For context, there were about 16.8 million remote employees before the pandemic hit. Who are these remote workers, though? About 16 percent are managers, and 14 percent are office and administrative support executives. The majority of them (57 percent) are at least college educated. Globally speaking, it’s estimated that 32 percent of the workforce will be remote by the end of 2021, up from 17 percent in 2019. When you narrow that down to knowledge workers, that figure jumps up to 51 percent. Here in the US, it is estimated that 26.7 percent of employees will be remote by the end of the year. There are many benefits to working remotely, both for employers and employees. The average remote worker saves about an hour of time per day by not commuting, and businesses save, on average, $1,100 annually per employee that works remotely half of their time.
