Organizations that plan on reopening their office spaces have their sights set on the summer. But with colleagues reconvening—and many perhaps meeting for the first time in person—things might be a little strange. While each organization’s strategy on cutting the tension will be a little different, there are a few key takeaways from business owners looking to reopen. First, don’t rush things. While many employees may be eager to return to office life, just as many will be hesitant for numerous reasons. Make sure all employees are comfortable, so soft openings are preferable to hard and fast deadlines. Ensure all safety protocols and guidelines are still being followed, and alter layouts and schedules to keep folks protected as they inevitably make their returns. The name of the game is flexibility, and safety must be the highest priority. Finally, while big celebrations are ill-advised, making small gestures to boost morale during stressful times can go a long way. Bring in breakfast or have outdoor collaboration time. Breaking up the monotony can help improve employees’ outlooks and productivity.
