Selecting the Right Reskilling or Upskilling Training Program

Labor is on everyone’s mind. According to new research from Deloitte, 73 percent of companies are concerned with the way labor and skills gaps will influence their business strategy over the next year. Currently, there are nearly 11 million empty positions with only 6 million people actively looking for work. Specifically, in the cybersecurity industry, there are only enough skilled candidates to fill 66 percent of open positions. Upskilling and reskilling current employees are solutions many employers are looking to, and for good reason. Training your current workforce is much easier than finding new people. However, not all programs are created equally. When considering such a program, be sure to not overlook the importance of personalization. When training isn’t personalized, it isn’t engaging at best and will be a waste of time at worst. Make sure the context is clear—show employees how the new skills they’re learning will be used in their work on a day-to-day basis, and help them solve problems. Finally, make sure whatever training program you select has a built-in ability to assess the return on investment (ROI).
