When work becomes impersonal and transactional, employees become burned out and disillusioned. This isn’t an infrequent phenomenon. According to recent studies, 77 percent of workers are suffering from some level of burnout, and over half— about 52 percent—are currently looking for new jobs. To combat this growing trend, employers need to move away from a philosophy of talent management to a human-centric position of talent empowerment. To do so, start by focusing on an employee’s personal growth and well-being. Provide mental health resources alongside tools for growth and self-actualization. Ongoing skill development needs to be part of this strategy as well. This type of support should be on demand and ideally personalized to each employee’s individual needs. This might look like one-on-one personal coaching or support groups of like-minded employees with similar goals.
