Regardless of how well protected you are from a technical standpoint, the weakest link in your cybersecurity chain is your employees. The majority of high-profile breaches are not caused by hackers breaking through firewalls, they’re the result of human error and social engineering. That’s why any organization—regardless of industry—needs to take cybersecurity training seriously. However, to be effective, careful consideration needs to be given to the content of this training and how it is presented. First and foremost, engagement should be prioritized. If training materials are dull, it’s unlikely that the material presented will be retained. Make sure the information is up to date and in a format that is accessible on demand. Focus training on phishing attacks, social engineering methods, and password hygiene. Also, as remote work is becoming the new normal, it’s important to ensure training is targeted at those who are now working outside the office.
