With the unprecedented amount of turnover occurring right now, it’s not a surprise that some employees will realize the grass wasn’t greener and seek to return to their old organization. It could be after a few months, or even after a few years—workforce experts are saying that this wave of “boomerang” employees could last for five years or more. But is there any value in hiring someone who previously left? Should you? As with most things, each individual situation is unique. A returning employee might bring with them new skills from their time away, and they will require far less training to get up to speed than a brand-new recruit. After all, they are likely experienced with your culture and have a great handle on the way things go on the day-to-day. However, it’s important to take into consideration the circumstances of their departure and their performance while they were employed at the organization.
