Talent is one of the top concerns for organizations moving into the new year—specifically attracting and retaining the right talent. According to the most recent Bureau of Labor report, job vacancies remain above 10 million in November 2022. This can only mean one thing: Business leaders need to innovate to compete in this labor market. Unfortunately, many leaders don’t know the options available to them. According to a recent study, only 20 percent say their organizations have mature talent strategies. When it comes to your hiring campaign and selection tactics, figure out what needs to get done, and write job descriptions based on the skills that matter most for that work, rather than experience and formal credentials. It can also help to partner with educational or community institutions to offer work experiences and talent pipelines for people entering the workforce with relevant skills. Employers need to think outside the box when it comes to their talent strategies in 2023, and focusing on the skills employees bring to the table is the best way to do it.
