Skills gaps are widening, and employers are finding it difficult to fill vacant seats in their organizations. On top of that, the Great Resignation is still unrelenting. Nearly 47 million Americans voluntarily left their jobs in 2022, and some experts expect turnover to grow by 20 percent. Hiring the right people for the right roles is crucial for business continuity and organizational success. There are myriad ways to address this challenge, but this two-fold approach is promising. First, expand your hiring pool. Second, invest in extensive employee training. For too long, employers have recruited only candidates with years of relevant experience. This approach significantly narrows your hiring pool and will cause you to pass over talented candidates who could be successful if given the proper guidance. Hire for organizational fit, and train the employee on the skills they’ll need to be successful. By inverting the process, you’ll be able to fill your vacant seats faster and improve organizational resilience.
