Ian Anderson was the lead singer and band leader for the 1960s and 1970s rock group Jethro Tull. What made him unique was that Anderson abandoned his ambition to play electric guitar and traded it in for the flute. After several weeks of practice, he discovered that he had the unique ability to play the flute in a rock and blues style. He had difficulty with the guitar because he set his standards too high - he wanted to play it as well as Eric Clapton. He was concerned about being technically proficient versus getting an emotional response from an audience.
