Why You Should Rethink Employee Monitoring Software

As workforces become increasingly decentralized, many people in management and leadership roles feel a pronounced lack of control. How can you be sure your employees are doing what they’ve been hired to do? How can you make sure productivity doesn’t slip when no one comes into an office anymore? The immediate impulse for some leaders is to invest in monitoring software. But is this a wise investment? Many experts are saying no. For one, the ethics behind employee surveillance are questionable at best, and more than half of employees report they are more stressed and anxious when they know someone might be watching over their shoulder. This leads to increased levels of burnout, and ultimately, turnover. Instead of tightening their grip, smart managers understand that investing in their people instead of trying to control them ends with more positive long-term results.
