**Khan Academy founder, Sal Khan, named Champion.

**During the ASTD 2013 International Conference & Exposition, A. William Wiggenhorn, renowned for his work at Motorola University, received the Lifetime Achievement Award from ASTD, the world’s largest association dedicated to the training and development profession. Wiggenhorn was one of six individuals recognized for contributions to the field.

The ASTD Awards are presented every year during the association’s annual conference which draws 9,000 training and development professionals from 70 countries. The awards ceremony also recognizes organizations that use T&D practices to advance business goals. This year nine companies were presented with ASTD Excellence in Practice Awards.

The ASTD Award winners honored at the conference are: 

**Lifetime Achievement: A. William Wiggenhorn

**Wiggenhorn was recognized for his work in transforming Motorola University into an operation that became a benchmark for corporate universities. He expanded the university’s international reach to encompass 101 education offices in 24 countries, developed two corporate museums, several customer briefing centers, a university and secondary education relationship team, and an external consulting team.  He is currently a principal at Main Captiva where he works with clients in many industries around the world.

**Distinguished Contribution: William E. Bridges

**Bridges was recognized for his pioneering work in transition, which transformed the way people think about change. Bridges was an internationally known author, teacher, and consultant. His 1994 book, JobShift: How to Prosper in a Workplace Without Jobs, accurately predicted the explosive growth in self-employment. Bridges died in February of 2013 and the Distinguished Contribution award was presented posthumously to his widow, Susan Bridges.

**Champion of Learning: Sal Khan

**The Champion award is presented to an individual outside of the training and development profession whose work and advocacy for learning has impact on the profession. Khan was recognized for his revolutionary work at the intersection of technology and learning. The Khan Academy model that leverages today’s technology to create educational tools and resources that are accessible and customizable to the individual, has spurred the T&D profession to reimagine the possibilities available for adult learners.

**ASTD Dissertation Award: Phyllis Wright

**The Dissertation Award is presented to foster and disseminate research in the training and development field. Phyllis Wright’s dissertation, “Goal Setting Theory: A Macro Study,” examines the relationship between goal utilization in Management by Objectives and Goal Setting Theory attributes.

**ASTD Certification Institute CPLP Fellows: Robert Pike and William Rothwell

**The ASTD Certification Institute CPLP Fellow recognition is presented to thought leaders in the field who advocate for the professionalization of the industry and support its only credential, the Certified Professional in Learning and Performance® (CPLP). Robert (Bob) Pike and William (Bill) Rothwell were chosen as 2013 Fellows. Pike is Chairman Emeritus and Founder of the Bob Pike Group, a training and performance consulting company. Rothwell is president of Rothwell & Associates, Inc., and a professor of Workforce Education and Development at the Pennsylvania State University. Both men were instrumental in the creation of the CPLP credential.

ASTD Certification Institute CPLP Employer Award: AAA Western & Central New York and Hilton Worldwide

AAA Western & Central New York and Hilton Worldwide received the CPLP Employer Award in recognition for their active support the CPLP credential and the practitioners who hold or seek to obtain it.
