With more than 29 years of experience as an acquisition professional in both the federal and private sector, Lisa Doyle, former chancellor of Veterans Affairs Acquisition Academy, was responsible for training the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) acquisition workforce by instilling competencies and skills. As head of the academy, Doyle formulated and delivered the strategies needed to develop acquisition business advisors. During an ASTD webcast on May 30, 2012, entitled, “Growing the Next Generation: A Succession Planning Case Study,” participants asked Doyle questions about the training program at the Acquisition Academy, how to measure subsequent performance improvements, and how to improve workplace performance.

From a training perspective, we need to make sure we can isolate, as much as possible, how training has contributed to performance.
