Research from Gartner shows that only one-third of employees report being excited or enthusiastic about their work, and that lack of engagement stifles productivity. Use these tips to motivate employees to stay engaged.

1. Listen deeply and ask follow-up questions.

Active listening is essential for leaders who want to motivate employees on a meaningful level, and it requires both singular focus and inquisitive follow-up. So, listen to your staff with intention.

2. Attach high-level insights to logical next steps.

Without action, ideas vanish. That is why the most successful leaders push for concrete courses of action, clear time frames, and precise expectations. Don't let your most valuable insights perish.

3. Offer individualized growth opportunities.

Everyone brings different motivations to the workplace. An uninspiring leader is resistant toward anything outside the organization's pre-existing procedures and objectives. An inspiring leader meets people where they are.

4. Define what success looks like after the finish line.

Don't view a business goal as a final ending. There are always ways to expand upon success—whether value driven or profit driven. Make sure your team always knows what's next.
