To keep workers engaged, the onus is on employers to create environments that support employee wellness. Begin the process with these recommendations.
1. Audit what your employees want.
Conduct a targeted inquiry into staff needs and expectations to understand what will make the difference in their wellness and what is important to them.
2. Gain C-suite buy-in by evaluating engagement.
Examine absenteeism, engagement, and morale to make a case for employee wellness. Collect pre- and post-data that show what has changed.
3. Use coaching to tailor wellness plans.
While one employee may desire a better relationship with their manager, another may need improved work-life balance. Coaching can leverage strengths to create plans that fit.
4. Encourage staff to take accountability for their personal well-being.
Employees are more than workers; they are whole people with complex needs. In addition to having organizational support, they must prioritize their own holistic wellness.
5. Uplift creative thinking as a collective group.
Prompt collaborative conversations in which employees can lean on one another for inspiration. Doing so reduces feelings of isolation and promotes wellness as a shared priority, which improves performance.
