Henry Ford, chairman of the Ford Motor Company, was undoubtedly a pioneer, brilliant inventor, and insightful leader renowned not only for his life-changing innovations but also words of wisdom, which included, “When everything seems to be going against you, remember that the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it.” So it may be surprising to learn that as one of the first CEOs to implement a formal approach to managing corporate cultural diversity in the early 1900s, he encouraged less rather than more to achieve a cohesive and productive workforce. But somewhere along the way, Ford eventually revealed that “if there is any one secret of success, it lies in the ability to get the other person’s point of view and see things from that person’s angle as well as from your own.”
