The article presents information related to Saint Luke's Hospital and Health Network. An array of challenges ranging from staff retention and cost containment to patient satisfaction forced Rick Anderson, CEO of the company, to create a leadership steering committee to explore creative solutions. Now-a-days, performance of hospitals are monitored by evaluating their Press Ganey scores. Press Ganey surveys patients to collect ratings on friendliness of the staff, courtesy of nurses and waiting times. These results are used by hospitals to discover their strengths and weaknesses in customer service. Saint Luke's leadership committee found many areas in need of improvement after assessing their survey results. The leadership committee and the CEO decided to focus on leadership development of its managers and increase staff communication. The leadership committee developed a three-way approach to implement its leadership initiative. By implementing this approach, the committee enhanced employee retention, improved Press Ganey scores, and boosted teamwork and communication. The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator was used to accomplish the strategic objectives of leadership development, team building, and promoting a better environment for staff and patients.
