The article offers information about the Lifetime Learning and Hope Scholarship tax credits that allows individual to claim qualified educational expenses of their dependents in the U.S. Lifetime Learning provides nonrefundable 20 percent tax credit of the first $10,000 tuition and fees for college students and working adults. The students need not to be enrolled in a degree or credential program and may claim the credit for single course. A maximum of $1,5000 nonrefundable tax credit per student for the first two years of post-secondary education is allowed to taxpayers and their dependents in Hope Scholarship. The students must be enrolled in a recognized degree, certificate or other credential.
