After more than 30 years in the field, I have been asked by many people how to progress in their career. Several have asked how to become a trusted adviser, as if there are only two options: trainer or trusted adviser. The belief that you either have a seat at the decision-making table or you remain a trainer or training manager overly simplifies the career path for talent development professionals.
