Cool Tool: SpeechTexter

SpeechTexter is a free, multilingual, speech-to-text app for transcription that doesn't require any downloading, installation, or extra tools to use. L&D practitioners can use it, for instance, in the event they are short on time to type notes or training session plans.

The tool supports 79 languages and uses Google Speech recognition to convert speech into text in real time. As such, users must have the latest version of Google Chrome. It also features a customizable voice commands list that enables individuals to add punctuation marks; common phrases; and actions such as undo, redo, and start a new paragraph. The app boasts an accuracy level of dictation to text higher than 90 percent.

To begin, connect a speaker or device with a built-in speaker to the app, adjust the audio settings, click on the app's microphone button, and dictate speech.
