In 1995, ADEPT Driver, a California-based company that develops driver education programs, commissioned the Traffic Injury Research Foundation to embark on cutting-edge research into driver behaviors. It had two goals: Identify the leading causes of car wrecks involving teen drivers, and evaluate traditional driver education in terms of its ability to reduce car accidents.
