Management development is a pain point for almost all of us in L&D. One of the biggest problems is that too many management development programs focus almost exclusively on the people development part of the manager's job—for example, how to coach and how to have development conversations. But what about the parts of the job that companies expect new managers to do now? For example: how to manage upward and why it's critical, how to develop a prosperous network, what it means to understand and meet the expectations of clients and stakeholders, how to handle the crises that will likely come their way, and what it means to manage a budget.
