The article provides update on the study entitled Networking Skills in North America: Trends, Gap and Strategies, conducted by Cisco Learning Institute in Phoenix, Arizona. The study is designed to examine the overall trend and condition for Internet protocol (IP) networking professionals in the information technology (IT) workforce in the country. The study data are collected from 500 respondents network managers across the wide range industries nationwide and correlated with the predictions from the Census Bureau, the Bureau of Labor Statistics and other related agencies. It discovers that there is a great emphasis on specialty skills among IT professionals. Fred Weiller of Leaning@Cisco illustrates training as an effective way to enhance knowledge and skills in IT professionals.
