Communications professionals have an especially difficult time staying on top of the changing technologies that shape their industry. Many seasoned marketers and journalists graduated from college before social platforms like Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram changed how companies build their brands; before search engine optimization became a core skill; and before podcasting and apps were considered routine media. If they don't continually pick up new skills, communications professionals could quickly get left behind.
