I still remember the day one of the best managers I've ever worked with asked to speak to me, visibly shaken after a challenging team meeting. Despite years of experience leading teams, "David" had just faced a moment that tested his core leadership approach. What started as a structured agenda to roll out new processes quickly unraveled when the team pushed back, frustrated at David directing rather than involving team members in shaping the solution. The tension was palpable as the employees, usually engaged and collaborative, grew increasingly distant and resistant. Despite attempts to keep the meeting on track, David's well-intentioned but one-sided approach had undermined the outcome he was trying to achieve.
