Early in my career as an eager trainer and instructional designer, I thought that I had a firm understanding of the who, what, when, where, and how of developing and delivering training programs. As I matured—that is, after one of my programs nearly missed the mark on what the client's performance expectations and requirements really were—I realized the ADDIE model's analysis step was key in ensuring that I delivered a product that was on target.
