Google.org has announced $15 million in artificial intelligence training grants for the US government's workforce to upskill employees in AI capabilities. The initiative is part of the technology company's $75 million AI Opportunity Fund, which aims to help US workers learn AI skills. The grant will fund two public sector organizations: the Partnership for Public Service and InnovateUS.

According to Google.org, the Partnership for Public Service has trained 550 of the most senior career government leaders in AI skills across 50 agencies and 35 states since 2019. It will receive $10 million to establish the Center for Federal AI, which is scheduled to launch this spring, to cultivate AI leadership and talent in the US federal government.

InnovateUS, which has trained more than 40,000 learners according to Google.org, will receive $5 million to expand its reach to more than 100,000 public sector workers in more than 30 states. InnovateUS plans to provide those employees with AI courses, workshops, and coaching programs tailored to state and local government. Learners will also have access to the Google Career Certificates program.
