The article focuses on the significance of refresher training, which helps nurses reenter the workforce, in the U.S. According to sources, the nursing profession has changed since the 1980s, where patient conditions are more complex, procedures, equipment and medications have changed, and nurses have more autonomy. It has been stressed that nurses who have been out of the field for a few years or several decades, may not be able to walk through the hospital doors and pick up where they left off. In the 2006 survey published in the Journal of Nursing Administration, 48 percent of the inactive registered nurses state that they would be willing to come back to work if they could work part-time. Thus, nearly all of them have to take refresher courses approved by their state boards of nursing.
