The article presents information on starting one's blog. While starting a blog, one should be careful about how he expresses himself regarding his employer, co-workers, and his company's products and services. Private-sector employers generally can ban their employees from posting critical information about them or their products and services, in accordance with applicable state laws governing regulation of off-the-job conduct. They also can ban an employee from posting information that are considered proprietary, confidential, or intellectual property in a blog. Employers can sue employees who post derogatory or sexually explicit language or photographs, of themselves or another colleague, particularly when the employee holds himself out, in some manner, as an employee. Employers, at the same time, should be careful of disciplining employees for blogging about some information, whether after-hours or not, that is safeguarded by applicable federal and state legislations. Still, an expansion of Internet-fueled communication and expression is promised by the future of blogs.
