Almost half of the respondents to the Kahoot! 2024 Workplace Culture Report find corporate training boring. More than one-third said that their company delivers training in an unengaging manner. Kahoot!'s annual report on challenges and opportunities in the workplace interviewed more than 1,000 full-time office workers from specific industries including technology, healthcare, and financial services. Respondents highlighted the need for flexible and engaging upskilling solutions to meet the workforce's future needs.
"Over the past decade, discussions about the 'great skill gap' have gained momentum among experts. This survey shows that now reality has also hit home for workers, as more and more realize the urgent need to upskill in response to shifting industry demands," explains Eilert Hanoa, CEO of Kahoot! "To thrive in today's fast-paced environment, delivering effective training is absolutely crucial. This training needs to be engaging, relevant, and deeply embedded in the company culture. Now is the time for companies to get it right."
Workers report too many hurdles to the task of upskilling, including the belief that employers do not recognize their efforts to upskill or their hard work. That sentiment creates a lack of motivation.
In addition, 47 percent of respondents report struggling with tight time constraints to complete training programs, causing stress and potential burnout. Seventy-four percent of employees report fatigue, and another 34 percent feel completely drained by their current workloads.
Even when they have the appropriate time or desire to participate in training, the workforce encounters training programs that organizations have not aligned to staff needs. Thirty-six percent of employees said their company's current programs lack relevance and real-world application. When asked how to better balance learning with everyday tasks, workers noted that they want flexible schedules, personalized training methods, and dedicated time during the workday for learning.
